Since December 2006 we have had many splendid days out, we've fished in Ireland, where we caught Pollack off the rocks and stayed in a Castle! This was a glorified gaol really, under the auspices of Mrs Pig Butler. "She was a miserable old cow as well as a pig!" said Peter Crabtree.
We have fished many times for Pike and on the River Wye our very own Mr Crabtree caught a massive fish of 30lbs! Taken on a deadbait with a 12' Dorchester hollow glass rod, fitted with a 4.5" wide drum Allcock Ariel centrepin reel. We have had two classic Trout trips to Chalkstreams, on The Piddle and Frome both in Dorset, the River Usk and also the River Wye for Grayling. We've fished at Laycock Abbey for Chub and Barbel on the Avon, Blagdon Reservoir on boats for Trout. We have even had a day's fishing on the River Cothi for Sea Trout, here Mr Crabtree caught a small one which he ate with the broad beans from his garden and Mr Bulldog fell in love with Black Rat Cyder, in the local pub.
We have developed into a small band of like minded Anglers, who measure the day in real enjoyment, the quality of the local beer (some like lager) and the company we fish in. Plus if we can, it's nice to catch a few fish now and then! The future looks bright, as our split cane rods are collected to fish with and the old good quality made reels, often look like a Swiss watch inside. Perfection!
"The Summer's coming and that means Tench, Peter!" said Mr Crabtree.
