Roach Fishing on the Brecon and Monmouth Canal - Sunday 18th January 2009

This was the first trip of 2009 and we went back to the canal, the scene of our very first Crabtree fishing day out, which was held on Sunday December 3rd 2006. Unlike our last visit, this time we did'nt catch anything, we did'nt even have a bite! Our excuse was that the water had been frozen recently and that must have put the fish off the feed. Saturday night we had a really wild storm, gusting winds and lashing rain. Sunday dawned much better, with only a slight wind, it was sunny, but cold. Only two members fished, Mr Spaghetti and Mr Crabtree (that's me! also known as The Phat Wun) we fished from 11am to 2pm. After this, we warmed ourselves up with a pint of real ale at The Horseshoe Inn just up the hill, accompanied by a bowl of hand cut, real posh chips with gravy. It was a very nice morning indeed!
